Chechen, also known as Caribbean rosewood (though not a true rosewood), has a heartwood color which is highly varied, with red, orange, and brown contrasted with darker stripes of blackish brown. Its color tends to shift to a darker reddish brown with age. It is fairly easy to work, but tear-out may occur when machining pieces with interlocked grain. It glues and finishes well, though because of its density and tendency to split, nails and screws should be pre-bored. 2" x 2" x 12" Spindle Turning Blank.
